This past sunday I travelled to Allianz Stadium to see my first rugby match! The two teams that were playing were the Rabbitohs and the Tigers- neither of which I had ever heard of. After finding our seats, my friends and I quickly became interested in the sport being played in front of us. It was very confusing at first but then I realized it is very much like American football. There are a few key differences- ruby has no pads or helmets... OUCH!, Rugby is non-stop unlike American football, and there is a lot more injuries!
I was completely shocked at the strength of the players... and the size of their thighs! They tackle like wrestlers and it made me cringe every time there was a tackle. The players seemed so dedicated and tough because when there was an injury they were either bandaged up on the field and continued playing or were escorted off the field but were back in the game a few minutes later! The crowd was very into their team pride- shouting, yelling, cheering, etc. It was all very interesting to watch! Overall, I had a very fun time watching this crazy sport and I hope I can attend another one someday!
